I think this is an interesting suggestion with lots of potential. Increasing dataset sizes and searchability is indeed a major concern. However, it looks like all the authors are at academic institutions so it’s unclear to me how much buy-in there is from instrument manufacturers. Without their commitment to implementing mzPeak (or at least to enabling file conversion and export), this new format will not be successful.

    Hi Laura-Isobel,

    I agree that vendor buy-in is a must for this to succeed. We have representatives from most of the major vendors on the committee, and have interest in adding the ability to export into this format directly already from several of those. Talks are ongoing, and of course any commitments at this point are contingent on business approval, but there seems to be appetite there.
