Does the introduction explain the objective of the research presented in the preprint?
Yes
The introduction clearly explains that Somagraphic Learning uses a visual interface to guard against cognitive offloading when AI is used in an educational context. Based on existing literature, this theoretically will preserve existing neural activity and create the necessary tension for learning to take place.
Are the methods well-suited for this research?
Highly appropriate
The abstract clearly states that the goal of this paper is to defend the need for a Somographic Learning model conceptually using existing literature. The gap in theory is well-defined.
Are the conclusions supported by the data?
Somewhat supported
The paper states that the method was tested with two STEM students and one STEM instructor, but the qualitative methodology is not well-defined. I believe that this small sample does serve as a pilot, but it is missing detail, coding methods, and triangulation. Having said that, the paper does propose this level of rigor in future empirical research. A brief mention of the coding approach for the pilot would address these concerns. Triangulation would also mitigate possible concerns that performance is skewed based upon level of education.
Are the data presentations, including visualizations, well-suited to represent the data?
I don’t know
How clearly do the authors discuss, explain, and interpret their findings and potential next steps for the research?
Very clearly
The clear and well-supported discussion of existing research, preliminary findings, and the direction of future empirical research is a strength for this paper. The proposed empirical studies will strengthen the existing framework and address the existing limitations.
Is the preprint likely to advance academic knowledge?
Highly likely
While much of the existing research on AI is explaining the breadth and depth of the cognitive risks and benefits associated with frequent AI use, this preprint takes an interventional approach and clearly outlines its practical application.
Would it benefit from language editing?
No
The article is well-written.
Would you recommend this preprint to others?
Yes, it’s of high quality
The articles creates a plausible solution for the challenges that come with the prevalent use of educational technology.
Is it ready for attention from an editor, publisher or broader audience?
Yes, after minor changes
Including information on the coding method and triangulation would make the findings from the pilot study stronger.
