In this article, the meaning of the fine structure constant is explained by using a new time scale transformation method. The method is a mathematical transformation between physical quantities that enables us to express them in terms of seconds or exponentials of seconds and also provides a consistent unit system, a variant of the geometrized unit system, that eliminates some of the universal constants including the gravitational constant, Coulomb’s constant, Boltzmann’s constant and the speed of light. It is a network of relations between fundamental quantities. Following the introduction of the method, it is demonstrated that the fine structure constant is a transition probability value that corresponds to 8,856 x 10^41 Newton electrostatic force between two electrons 1 Planck’s length apart from each other. Finally, other implications of the method (quantity classification in time scale, probability aspects of speed and force, elimination of universal constants) and its physical meaning are discussed.
