This article results of broader research aimed at understanding, from the perspective of journalistic ethics, how journalists perceive the metrification of Brazilian journalism, which has been guided by the fulfillment of audience goals. In this paper, we discuss one of the results achieved: the difference in understanding of metrics between reporters and editors. We conducted in-depth interviews with 10 journalists from major newsrooms and, through Discourse Analysis, identified that reporters express greater negativity, highlighting the pressure to produce stories of audience interest, while editors adopt a conciliatory tone, emphasizing the connection between the press and the audience's reading interests.
