Objective: To examine the quality of information on occupation in the SIVEP-Gripe system, with a focus on notifications of hospitalized SARS cases, from 01/04 to 31/12/2020. Methods: Using Datasus microdata, the completeness of the occupation question was assessed and describe the most frequent ones. Results: Completeness of 2.24% was observed in the set (n= 35,518) of SARS records in individuals aged 20 to 65. In five capitals, the occupational group Scientific and intellectual professionals stood out. In two municipalities, the groups Officers, workers and artisans and Unskilled workers predominated. Conclusion: The denial of occupation in SIVEP-GRIPE is a barrier to controlling the transmission of flu-like illnesses in the country. We suggest incorporating strategies to improve the quality of occupational information that are in force in other health information systems.
