Summary

This paper reports on a formative evaluation of an immersive analytics application (Tableau for visionOS) conducted at a large enterprise BI conference. The research examines how head-mounted displays influence business intelligence analysis through their user-friendly design and perceived value and their complete effect on user interaction.

Contribution

The main contribution is an enterprise-focused evaluation perspective on immersive analytics. The research paper shows that methodological issues prevent scientists from distinguishing between actual analytical value and new information effects which occur during real-world opportunistic evaluation processes.

Relevance

The current research topic matches the present day because enterprise BI professionals now show interest in immersive analytics and spatial computing. Researchers together with tool developers need to establish correct methods for implementing these technologies into real analytical work.

Approach

The evaluation method which takes place at conferences serves as the best approach for studying new ideas during their initial development phase. The evaluation process benefits from usability feedback which helps researchers understand the evaluation context through reflective analysis.

Strengths

Real-world enterprise evaluation context

Honest discussion of methodological trade-offs

The research provides essential knowledge about human-device interactions with HMDs and their operational difficulties.

Limitations

The research findings about long-term utility and productivity remain uncertain because the study used a limited number of participants and brief observation period. The research findings consist of exploratory data which does not apply to broader populations.

Overall assessment

The research provides essential findings about enterprise immersive analytics assessment through its development of practical methods for upcoming research but its results exist at a basic level.

Competing interests

The author declares that they have no competing interests.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The author declares that they did not use generative AI to come up with new ideas for their review.
