This critical narrative review examines divine origins, awakening, and ethical authority through seven Gnostic scriptures and selected biblical narratives and commentaries. Five Nag Hammadi works are compared with Pistis Sophia and the Gospel of Judas, preserving their separate manuscript histories and accounts of Sophia, rulers, revelation, and restoration. Biblical comparisons consider Zechariah's stork-winged women, Jehoshaphat and Azubah, hypocrisy, and wisdom. Close reading distinguishes scriptural narrative, traditional commentary, scholarly interpretation, and contemporary reception. The stork-winged women's association with hypocrisy has explicit support in the Babylonian Talmud, Rashi, and Malbim; it is not merely a modern invention. Sophia's shame is likewise textually attested in John, but its role differs from other explanations of error and suffering. The review treats intuition as a productive source of questions that develop through textual scrutiny and alternative readings. Its principal finding is that apparent authority and sacred appearance repeatedly invite ethical examination, although the selected sources differ about the origins of error and the means of restoration.
