The migration of physicians from the former Soviet Union to Israel during the 1990s substantially reshaped Israel's medical workforce, including psychiatry. This narrative review examines how professional norms formed within hierarchical Soviet medical institutions interacted with Israeli clinical culture, and how both historical memory and training gaps may influence stigma and clinical authority in mental health care. Drawing on historical scholarship, reports on physician licensing and adaptation in Israel, survey research among former Soviet immigrants, and international rights-based mental health guidance, the review distinguishes between documented political abuses in the Soviet Union, broader paternalistic habits in clinical training, and individual clinical practice. While Israeli integration pathways included licensing examinations and, in some settings, cultural-sensitivity supervision, available sources do not establish whether retraining systematically addressed stigma, patient autonomy, or the historical lessons of Soviet political psychiatry. Grounded in lived experience of psychiatric care and respect for psychiatry's healing potential, this article argues for direct historical and qualitative research alongside profession-wide educational reform that treats Soviet political psychiatry as a cautionary counterexample and places patient dignity at the center of care.
