The ego is a phantom, a view the brain generates to paper over the ongoing disagreement between two processing systems that do not share a common language. This essay extends the phantom-limb model of the self through progressively wider scales. The soul appears as a deeper phantom at the interface between fast processing and the body's integrative sensing. Ideology emerges as the phantom formed when many egos couple through the social layer. Intrinsic and extrinsic facets of consciousness couple to produce love, tribal identification, and universal states. The same recursive mechanism runs at every scale of the material realm and beyond it. Every stable appearance in the universe, from ego to galaxy, is an endo-anomaly generated by miscommunication in the flow of an underlying field. That field is consciousness itself, and its irreducible self-perturbation is what produces every local consolidation the material realm registers as real. The framework dissolves several long-running divides along the way: Freud versus the cognitive unconscious, tabula rasa versus biological determinism, and the neural correlates of consciousness and dark matter as the same failure mode where instruments detect real signals from referents they cannot grip. The essay is offered as a philosophical synthesis, its central claims as invitations to further thought. A companion interactive visualization, the Infinity Nexus, is published separately.
