This thesis proposes a unified framework integrating five levels of human cognition and perception into a single coherent architecture. The deepest layer is a distributed sub-perceptual Gestalt Sensing System, a whole-organism environmental radar operating below conscious awareness, grounded in documented biological substrates including neuroception, the enteric nervous system, sub-threshold chemosensation, infrasound sensitivity, and magnetoreception. Above it is consciousness, re-conceived not as the apex of cognition but as the organismic ground state, the continuous process by which the organism draws a boundary between self and environment. Above consciousness sits the Selbstgestalt, the felt shape of the self, produced when System 1 integrates Gestalt output into coherent pattern before language operates on the result; this is the architectural layer that cultures across history have named soul, spirit, ruh, atman, conscience, or higher self, and its properties predict the phenomenology those traditions describe. Running on that ground are two parallel processing modes: a fast, automatic system whose defaults are calibrated by resolution allocation logic rather than epistemic accuracy, and a slow, deliberate system capable of sustained sequential reasoning. These two systems do not share a language and do not always agree. What has traditionally been called the ego is re-conceived here not as a further structural component but as the experiential view generated by the unresolved conflict between the two processing systems, a phantom coherence, real in its effects but not real as an entity, maintainable only at continuous cost to the organism.

The architecture resolves several phenomena that existing single-discipline frameworks cannot adequately explain: why medically unexplained symptoms in otherwise healthy populations may reflect genuine sub-perceptual environmental detection rather than psychosomatic elaboration; why intelligence does not reliably reduce bias and may in fact amplify it under certain conditions; why ego dissolution under pharmacological or meditative conditions feels categorically different from ordinary unconsciousness and specifically leaves a persistent sense of self intact; why the near-death experience presents a consistent phenomenology across cultures whose components map cleanly onto the architecture; why the felt experience of encountering different clinical presentations of permeability failure, narcissism, primary psychopathy, secondary psychopathy differs qualitatively in ways observers report with striking cross-cultural consistency; why compassion is architecturally distinct from empathy and why the two dissociate in specific vulnerability patterns; and why the longstanding tension between cognitive science and clinical psychology reflects a principled disciplinary divide rather than a methodological disagreement.

The framework generates testable predictions, identifies convergent evidence across evolutionary biology, cognitive neuroscience, phenomenology, radiobiology, contemplative science, and clinical psychology, and proposes that the gap between what an organism senses and what it can name is not a failure of the system but its ordinary condition, one whose consequences are most visible in the chronic anxiety of institutional life, the persistence of medically unexplained illness, the paradox of the compassionate person weirded out by charisma that others find magnetic, and the phenomenon of knowing something before being able to say it.
