Maya Bay in Krabi Province, southern Thailand, is one example of a coastal area that has suffered from the negative effects of over-tourism Because of the Government of India's plan to place Lakshadweep on the world map of tourism destinations that compete with other archipelagos, it was critical that the current state of tourism in Lakshadweep be studied and precautionary measures be reviewed so that tourism growth does not devolve into over-tourism and Lakshadweep does not follow the same path as Maya Bay.
