Write a short summary of the research’s main findings and how this work has moved the field forward.

Major issues

The authors brought in a great and very important concept to address adverse childhood experiences in LMIC. However, we have some comments:

1) Despite the authors’ drive to make the points, the structure of the paper makes it difficult to understand. So, the authors should try creating a subheading;

  • Current status of the LHW-led Community-Based Mental Health Programs in LMICs

  • Lay Health Workers’ Roles in addressing ACEs

  • Challenges in implementation in LMICs

  • Opportunities for the implementation

  • Recommendation(s)

  • Conclusion

2) We suggest the authors mention key stakeholders in doing this and how they will play their role to ensure implementation.

3) We suggest the authors include supporting literatures on the critical need for integration of the ACEs-focused programs into existing LHW-led community health frameworks in resource limited settings.

Minor issues

  • Few typographical errors

  • Repetition of in-text citation (Counts et al., 2017)

Competing interests

The authors declare that they have no competing interests.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The authors declare that they did not use generative AI to come up with new ideas for their review.
