The Integrative Animal Archetype Model: A Wyrdology Framework
This theoretical paper introduces the Integrative Animal Archetype Model, an interdisciplinary framework developed within Wyrdology that brings together psychology, neuroscience, anthropology, religious and spiritual studies, and embodied biological understanding to examine the significance of animal archetypes in human experience.
The model explores how animal symbolism can function as a means of interpreting psychological processes, emotional experiences, cognitive patterns, physiological responses, and culturally situated systems of meaning. Drawing upon perspectives from scientific and humanities disciplines, the paper considers how animal archetypes may provide an accessible conceptual language for understanding relationships between the brain, body, behaviour, culture, and spirituality.
Rather than proposing that animal archetypes correspond to discrete neurological structures or universal biological mechanisms, the framework investigates their potential as integrative metaphors through which complex human experiences may be understood and communicated.
The paper seeks to contribute to interdisciplinary discussions surrounding symbolic cognition, embodied experience, meaning-making, and the relationship between scientific knowledge and cultural or spiritual interpretations of human experience. It also establishes a theoretical foundation for future empirical investigation and further development of Wyrdology as an integrative research framework.
