Proper irrigation scheduling can help to ensure judicial use of water resources, reduce cost of irrigation, and minimize the risks of water management related problems such as waterlogging and salinization. This papers aims to identify the most suitable irrigation scheduling practices for Fincha sugarcane Plantation using modelling and simulation model, CROPWAT, and statistical methods. All data required for modelling and simulation in CROPWAT related to climate, soil, crop, and system parameter were collected and the model was run for irrigation scheduling scenarios formulated using four major irrigation scheduling methods: Fixed, Partially, Mixed Schedule, and On-demand schedule. The model was run for 22 selected scheduling scenarios over replicated over three seasons to simulate performance of irrigation scheduling. The Correlation analysis were carried out to identify the nature of relationship among the performance indicators, analysis of variances (ANOVA) were carried out to check if the irrigation scheduling scenarios have significant effect on irrigation scheduling performance, and multiple least significant difference (MLSD) were carried out to compare the mean values of performance indicators. All the analysis were carried out using R statistical software. It is found that the efficiency of irrigation schedules and efficiency of rainfall are highly correlated while the deficiency and yield reduction are significantly correlated. The ANOVA shows the irrigation scheduling scenarios have significant effect on performance indicators. The MLSD shows on demand scheduling and mixed irrigation scheduling showed highest, equal, and consistent performance for all performance indicators. Considering manageability under existing design, the mixed irrigation scheduling can generally be considered optimal for both soils in Fincha sugar estate. Therefore, it is recommended that the sugar estate shall implement mixed irrigation scheduling practices for optimal yield and water use efficiency.

You can write a PREreview of Identification of Optimal Irrigation Schedule Using Crop Simulation Modeling (CROPWAT) and Statistical Methods for Sprinkler Irrigation System of Fincha Sugar Estate, Wollega, Oromia, Ethiopia. A PREreview is a review of a preprint and can vary from a few sentences to a lengthy report, similar to a journal-organized peer-review report.
