This article develops a review of the literature that has focused on determining which are the most frequent traffic violations and what are their causes. From a total of 113 articles, inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, selecting 22 sources to deepen the topic of study. From the results it has been determined that the most frequent violations are driving at excessive speed, driving while intoxicated and leaving the vehicle improperly parked; Likewise, it was determined that the causes that cause these violations are mainly the driver's recklessness, followed by driving while intoxicated and finally psychological factors such as impatience, anger and haste. These data shed light on the problem of road safety; To address it and to make traffic safer, a variety of approaches need to be applied. These may include road safety education, provision of infrastructure and psychological support, among others.
